Orly Airport extends over 15.3 square kilometres (5.9 sq mi) of land as its mentioned in orly airport map. Orly airport straddles two départements and seven communes. Orly Airport has two terminals: West and South. Management of the airport, however, is solely under the authority of Aéroports de Paris, which also manages Charles de Gaulle Airport, Le Bourget Airport, and several smaller airports in the suburbs of Paris.
Orly Airport was originally known as Villeneuve-Orly Airport, after the two communes over which is straddles. Orly airport was opened to the public in 1932 as a secondary airport to Le Bourget Airport (see orly airport map), but when France was occupied by Germany during the Second World War it was controlled by the Germany Army and suffered much bomb damage as a result. At the end of the war it was rebuilt by the US Air Force and it was placed under the control of a newly-founded public company, Aéroport de Paris.
